The safety of our students and staff is the Franklin County School System’s highest priority. Schools may be closed or delayed for a variety of reasons, including inclement weather, unsafe road conditions, emergencies, or other circumstances that may affect the safety of students and staff.
How Closure and Delay Decisions Are Made
School closure and delay decisions are based on several factors, including:
Local weather forecasts and expected conditions
Current and projected road and travel conditions
Conditions throughout the Franklin County School System’s attendance area
Input from local emergency management and safety officials
The ability of students, families, staff, and school buses to travel safely
These factors are carefully evaluated before a decision is made. Because weather and road conditions can change quickly, the school system may continue to monitor conditions throughout the night and into the early morning hours before making a final determination.
When schools are closed, all after-school activities and events scheduled for that day are generally canceled, unless otherwise communicated by the school system.
How Parents and Guardians Will Be Notified
When a decision is made to close or delay school, the Franklin County School System will communicate the decision through multiple channels whenever possible.
Infinite Campus Notifications – Notifications will be sent to guardians through text messages, email, and portal notifications using the contact information maintained in Infinite Campus.
Franklin County School System Website – The school system website will be updated to reflect any school closure or delay.
Official Franklin County School System Facebook Page – Updates will be posted on the system's official Facebook page.
Local Media – Notifications will be shared with local media outlets, including 92.1 WLHR and Franklin County Citizen.
Families are encouraged to keep their contact information current in Infinite Campus and to monitor these communication channels during periods of inclement weather or other circumstances that could affect school operations.
