What Does a School Social Worker (SSW) Do?

A SSW helps students and families address a variety of concerns, which may include any of the following:

  • Academic problems and school discipline

  • School attendance

  • Child abuse and neglect

  • Health and economic needs

  • Family problems

  • Alcohol and other drug issues

  • School age pregnancy

  • Mental health issues

  • Suicide

  • Homelessness

  • Student conflicts and violence
