2025-2026 ReZoning & Hardship Information 

25-26 Rezoning Summary:

Franklin County School System (FCSS) successfully opened South Franklin Elementary School on January 8, 2025.  The new facility, with a capacity of over 750 students, provides additional instructional space that will be used to support student learning. Due to the mid-year move, South Franklin Elementary is currently operating far below its capacity.  With this additional space, the need to rezone students is necessary to ensure each of the system’s elementary schools have the resources and space needed to support their student populations.  

What is Rezoning? 

Rezoning is a process that reviews school attendance zones within a district, which could impact the school a student attends based on their home address.  Zoning changes are typically made to address population/housing shifts and overcrowding within schools.

Over the past year, FCSS has engaged in a process to evaluate our current elementary school boundaries and enrollment patterns.  Many factors were considered throughout this process to include:

Rezoning FAQs

Why did the system need to rezone the elementary schools for the 2025-2026 school year?

Due to the additional instructional space available from the opening of South Franklin Elementary, there was a need to reevaluate the current elementary school boundaries to ensure that each elementary has the resources and space needed to support their student populations. 

What was the process the system used to rezone the Elementary schools?

Over the past year, a committee of district leaders reevaluated the current elementary school boundaries using the following criteria:   (1) population/housing trends, (2) instructional capacity, (3) current/projected enrollment, and (4) special programs needs.  Considered maps were shared with the community and concerns were addressed.  The Board of Education approved the 25-26 elementary boundaries map on March 11, 2025.  

How do I know what Elementary school my child should attend?

On March 14, 2025 guardians received an email and Infinite Campus Portal notification with each elementary student's specific 2025-2026 school assignment.  If you are not a guardian, general school assignment information, based on an address, may be determined by reviewing the the approved 2025-2026 Elementary School Boundary Map

I belive The address on file for my child is incorrect. how do I update it? 

Student addresses used for rezoning are linked to your child through Infinite Campus.  If the address provided in the notification email was not correct, the enrolling parent should use the link below to have it changed.   One proof of residency will be required to process the change.   Click here to update your address.

What if I have a substantial need or hardship related to my child's school?

Parents or guardians with a substantial need should complete a hardship application.  Once the hardship application window closes, all applications will be reviewed and considered with the expressed need and redistricting criteria in mind.  Hardship determinizations will be communicated prior to May 16, 2025 via email and Infinite Campus portal notificationClick here to access the hardship application. 

How/WHen will I be notified if I am approved for a Hardship?

Once the hardship application window closes, all applications will be reviewed and considered with the expressed need and redistricting criteria in mind. Guardians of a student will receive an email and Infinite Campus Portal notification stating the hardship determination and final school assignment.   Determinations will be communicated prior to May 16, 2025.
